The Contoocook Valley Visual and Performing Arts Center is working to design and build a multi-purpose arts facility that will serve as a performing arts center, instructional space and regional venue for arts events and exhibitions. The centerpiece will be a 400-seat flexible-space performing arts center to support arts education, and community arts programs. With retractable seating, the expertly designed, flexible space will accommodate many needs, including small cabarets, black box theatre, dance events, theatrical musicals, and large orchestral concerts. The facility will be located in the space where it was originally intended to be built (between the gymnasium and the classrooms). It will include art exhibition space, and instructional space available to the school and community. The building will be constructed with a concerted effort to include energy-saving green technologies, and New Hampshire or New England materials and construction services. It will be used for student performances, and will be available to any performing groups in the district. We plan to build a high-caliber facility that will attract performers and artists from beyond the region; this will expand its utilization and enhance our local economy.
Our welcoming visual and performing arts center will serve the cultural needs of the communities in the ConVal District by allowing for and encouraging collaborative endeavors between all of the arts disciplines. As a vibrant community center for the exploration and display of visual and performing arts, this venue will offer an array of programs that can provide learning opportunities for students and all citizens, as well as inspire and train people for 21st century employment. As a ‘green’ educational and entertainment centerpiece, this facility will attract outside performers to the region; draw visitors, new residents, and businesses; support economic growth; and enrich our cultural life.
New Hampshire Charitable Foundation Challenge Grant Met!
In September of 2016 we received a challenge award of $20,000 from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. The award was granted to support two feasibility studies:
• Financial Feasibility – to determine the level of private support available within the Contoocook Valley District to raise the capital funds necessary to construct a visual and performing arts center on the ConVal High School campus.
• Architectural Feasibility – to determine the cost of construction and site adequacy.
Thanks to you, our generous supporters, we achieved the $20,000 matching funds to qualify for the grant and the studies are in progress!
